The Comcast franchise renewal agreement, which was first presented last month in the Public Safety, Civil Rights and Technology Committee, was passed out of committee today to be approved by the full Council next Monday.
The city staff who negotiated with Comcast provided this presentation summarizing the benefits for the city included within the agreement, and compares them with the 2006 agreement.
The staff maintained the benefits for the city and enhanced a few. They feel good about that given that there is a more competitive environment with CenturyLink also offering cable television services locally. The city will receive around $8 million in cash payments annually from Comcast in addition to the other benefits.
The committee approved the agreement to be presented for the full Council’s approval.
