This afternoon the City Council gave final approval to an ordinance establishing a minimum wage standard for Uber and Lyft drivers, after passing it out of committee last week.
Despite fierce opposition from Uber, Lyft, and some part-time drivers (or perhaps because of the opposition from Uber and Lyft), the bill passed unanimously out of committee last week, with all five members of the Finance and Housing Committee signing on as co-sponsors and more Council members rushing to sign on today.
The bill now goes to Mayor Durkan for her signature; since the proposal originated in her office, there is no doubt she will sign it. The Mayor issued a press release praising the Council’s action today.
