Energy and Environment Committee chair Kshama Sawant has put off “for a week or so” the confirmation vote on Larry Weis for CEO of Seattle City Light, on the request of a group of environmental activists.
Lots of topics in the news this morning. Let’s jump in…
This morning, Council member Herbold’s Civil Rights, Utilities, Economic Development and Arts Committee was briefed on how the city is responding to the ongoing mess that is the 23rd Avenue construction project.
A lot happened in City Hall yesterday.
At the end of the City Council meeting this afternoon, Council member Tim Burgess accused the Seattle Times of shoddy reporting in their recent article and editorial on planning for the proposed SODO Arena and for the future of Key Arena.
This morning the City Council got a briefing on the recent assessment of the East Duwamish Greenbelt homeless encampment, better known as “The Jungle.”
You can read the assessment team’s written report here, or my summary here. The factual part of this morning’s briefing didn’t relay much information beyond what was in the report, instead the council members were eager to discuss an appropriate response.
Mayor Ed Murray just held a press conference to announce a number of steps that the city will take to improve matters related to the 23rd Avenue construction project — including mitigation funds for small businesses.
Uber’s anti-union push is in the news again this morning, plus lots of eyes watching the various hearings that the City Council has been holding recently.
Many of us heard about the Seattle homeless encampment known as “The Jungle” for the first time late last month when a double homicide occurred there. That same night, Mayor Ed Murray, King County Executive Dow Constantine, and Governor Jay Inslee agreed to a joint assessment of the site to gather data on the conditions there and the risks and hazards posed by its ongoing presence. That report is now in, and the City Council will be briefed on it tomorrow morning. And it’s far, far worse than you imagined.
Lots going on this week.
