Draft TPP Opposition Letter from City Council

Council member Mike O’Brien has drafted a letter to the state’s congressional delegation voicing the City Council’s opposition to fast track approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade treaty.

You can read the letter here. It spells out the issues that the city has with the TPP as negotiated, particularly how it might roll back environmental protections and undermine progressive labor laws.

Note: there are twelve versions of the letter, each addressed directly to a member of the WA congressional delegation but otherwise the text is the same. Also, Council member Sally Bagshaw has asked for some changes, so there might be an updated version later today (they are going to attempt to collect all the signatures at this afternoon’s full Council meeting).
