Appointment of Jesus Aguirre as Parks Superintendent moves forward

This afternoon, the Council advanced out of committee the appointment of Jesus Aguirre as Superintendent of the Department of Parks and Recreation. It will come up for final confirmation on Monday.

It’s a re-appointment of sorts for Aguirre. He previously held the position from June 2015 through January 2018. He left to join his five siblings in running their family business, Tower Steel Services, a steel manufacturing and construction company. But in the hearing today, Aguirre said that he found himself missing public service and so approached the Mayor’s Office about getting his old job back.

Aguirre said today that he is looking forward to engaging with the community on the upcoming strategic planning process for the department, setting out its goals for the next ten years.

Assuming he is confirmed by the full Council (he likely will), his term will run through April 1, 2023.
