Not much to write about today.
This afternoon, the Council passed an ordinance appropriating the last $18 million of CARES Act funding it received last fall, to extend several COVID relief programs through the end of the year.
It also approved a resolution urging the Biden Administration to end its opposition to the WTO’s waiver of certain IP rights related to prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
Councilmember Lewis announced that his Committee on Homelessness Strategies and Investments will meet next on May 6, and the agenda will include a status update on the city’s “shelter surge” strategy — including the possibility of opening up a third hotel to shelter the homeless. It will also include an update on the “street sink” program.
This coming Saturday is May Day. Let’s all hope that the protests remain peaceful.
