This morning Police Chief O’Toole briefed the City Council on last night’s shooting at the “jungle” homeless encampment.
In the incident five people were shot; two have died and three were injured and receiving treatment. It’s still very early in the investigation: there are several witnesses who are being interviewed by the homicide division, but those interviews won’t be complete until they have the opportunity to interview the injured people.
O’Toole stated that while the perpetrators were probably not homeless, there is no evidence that the victims were targeted because they are homeless.
We can expect more information to be made available as the investigation proceeds.
