Secure scheduling ordinance adopted by full Council

This afternoon the full City Council voted 9-0 to approve the proposed “secure scheduling” ordinance.

The ordinance, which was co-sponsored by Council members Lisa Herbold and Lorena Gonzalez, has been in the works since early March.

before it passed out of committee last week, one of the ten proposed amendments was tabled because Council member Juarez, who offered it, was not present. Juarez did not re-introduce it today — a smart move on her part since there was zero enthusiasm among her Council colleagues for it.

Here is the post-vote press release from the Mayor and Council members.

The ordinance will take effect on July 1, 2017, which gives the Office of Labor Standards time to complete its rulemaking to operationalize it.
