Ninth Circuit Court reverses lower court, allows Sawant defamation case to move forward

Twice now U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman has tried to dismiss a defamation case filed against Councilmember Kshama Sawant, and twice the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has said no. Twice now the plaintiffs have tried to have the case reassigned to a different judge, and twice the Ninth Circuit has said no.

City settles Che Taylor wrongful death suit with $1.5 million payment

This afternoon, the City of Seattle submitted to the court a proposed settlement and dismissal of the wrongful-death lawsuit filed against the city by the estate and family of Che Taylor.

Judge narrows Che Taylor wrongful death suit, sends it on to trial

This afternoon, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Zilly issued an order in the wrongful death lawsuit filed over the killing of Che Taylor by Seattle Police Department officers. His order dismisses some of the claims — as well as some of the plaintiffs and defendants — and clears the path for what remains to proceeds to a jury trial.
