City settles Showbox lawsuit (UPDATED)

This afternoon, the City of Seattle announced that it has reached a settlement in the lawsuit filed by the owner of the Showbox property over the city’s “spot zone” of the Showbox to prevent it from being redeveloped.

A busy day for the City Attorney’s Office

“Save the Showbox” ordinance draws lawsuit from property owner

Last Friday Roger Forbes, the owner of the Showbox music venue, filed a lawsuit in King County Superior Court challenging the legality of the City Council’s recently-passed “Save the Showbox” ordinance that added the property to the Pike Place Market Historical District.

Council passes “Save the Showbox” ordinance

This afternoon, the Council voted 8-0 to pass into law an ordinance temporarily extending the protections of the Pike Place Historical District to the site of the Showbox through the creation of a “study area.”

Sawant tries to fast-track two bills, gets pushback from her colleagues

This afternoon Council member Kshama Sawant introduced two bills: a resolution related to EMT wages, and an ordinance to save the Showbox. She wanted to get the resolution passed this afternoon and the ordinance next Monday, but the her colleagues on the Council had other thoughts.
