Today Mayor Jenny Durkan announced that she has submitted nominations to the City Council to make permanent three of her interim department head appointments: Sue McNab at the Department of Human Resources, Calvin Goings at the Department of Finance and Administrative Services, and Andrés Mantilla at the Department of Neighborhoods. Durkan also announced that Linea Laird would take over for Goran Sparrman as interim Director of the Department of Transportation while the search process for a permanent SDOT director finishes up.
McNab, Goings and Mantilla will need to be confirmed by the City Council this fall.
Here’s the background on Laird, from the press release that the Mayor’s Office sent out this afternoon:
Linea Laird, who will serve as Interim Director and focus on upcoming permanent closure of the Alaska Way Viaduct and realignment of SR 99, previously served as Chief Engineer and Assistant Secretary of Engineering and Regional Operations for Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) as well as the Administrator for the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program. Laird will replace Sparrman who agreed to serve as Director from January 2018 – August 2018.
Durkan has tasked an 11-member search committee with conducting a national search for a new permanent SDOT Director. Its work is still underway.
